Illinois' women's tennis team competed today in day two of the Fourth Annual Midwest Blast, held at Atkins Tennis Center. Other teams participating include Georgia Tech, Ohio State, and Baylor. The Fighting Illini were again short on team members due to injury, with freshman Kate Boomershine joining classmate Leila Cehajic (ankle) and juniors Michelle Webb (wrist surgery) and Eldina Fazlic (shoulder surgery) on the inactive list. The Illini won two of five singles matches and the only doubles match that they played.

In singles action, sophomore Tiffany Eklov destroyed her opponent in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-1, while fellow sophomore Jennifer McGaffigan, ranked 70th nationally, used three sets to dispatch her opponent, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5. The Illini's two other sophomores, Eva Choe and Erin Miller both lost in straight-sets. Choe lost 6-2, 6-1 and Miller fell 6-2, 6-0.

In the lone Illinois doubles match, Choe and McGaffigan teamed up and dominated Georgia Tech's Jaime Wong and Laura Ozolins, 8-2.

The Midwest Blast concludes Sunday at Atkins Tennis Center, with competition beginning at 9 a.m.
