Illinois Defeats Wisconsin, 2-1

Madison, WI - The Fighting Illini women's soccer team completed their Big Ten road trip by defeating Wisconsin, 2-1, at McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison. The Illini now stand at 6-4, 4-1 in Big Ten play.

"We were composed and displinined as a team today," head coach Tricia Taliaferro said. "We bounced back from last weekend and will be able to build off this for the next weekend. The team worked well offensively and defensively and created opportunities."

Illinois continued their offensive assult, outfiring the Badgers 26-14. Freshman Tara Hurless fired four shots on goal while senior Lindsay Johnson put three shots on goal. Their aggressiveness continued as the Illini committed 23 fouls to Wisconsin's 10.

Colleen Joyce scored her sixth goal of the season in the 23rd minute, off an Hollie Schurr assist. The Badgers answered back about twenty minutes later, tying the game at one. In the 75th minute, Tara Schuling put in the game winner, assisted by Schurr and Lindsay Johnson.

Illinois returns for a home stand against Ohio State in a 7 p.m. Friday night contest and will play host to Nittany Lions of Penn State on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
