With the 42-35 win this afternoon, Illinois improved to 6-1 for the first
time since 1990. Illinois is also off to its best Big Ten start since 1993.
Illinois senior quarterback Kurt Kittner became the school's all-time
leader in touchdown passes this afternoon, passing Jack Trudeau's record of
55. Kittner threw four TD passes this afternoon and now totals 57 for his
career. It was the fourth time in his career that Kittner threw four TD passes
in a game.
Kittner threw for 401 yards this afternoon, a career high. In doing so he
became only the fifth QB in school history to surpass 400 yards in a game and
it was the ninth time a QB has thrown for over 400 yards in school history.
The last time an Illini quarterback threw for over 400 yards was in 1991 when
Jason Verduzco had 431 yards against Missouri.
With his 401 yards, Kittner also moved into third place on Illinois'
all-time passing yardage list. He now has 7,305 passing yards in his career.
Brandon Lloyd caught eight passes for 129 yards this afternoon, giving the
sophomore his fifth career 100-yard receiving game and his fourth 100-yard
receiving game of the season. The last time an Illinois receiver had four or
more 100-yard receiving games in the same season was in 1985 when David
Williams had six 100-yard receiving games.
Both Brandon Lloyd (129 yards) and Aaron Moorehead (111 yards) had 100-yard
receiving games this afternoon. The last time two Illini receivers went over
100 yards in the same game was against Iowa on Sept. 26, 1998 when Larry Davis
totaled 116 yards and Lenny Willis had 100 yards.
Illinois senior running back Rocky Harvey's eight rushing attempts this
afternoon give him 479 for his career, moving him into fifth place on
Illinois' all-time rushing attempts list.
Wisconsin's Lee Evans, who had 150 yards receiving today, became
Wisconsin's all-time single-season receiving leader. He now has 960 receiving
yards on the season.
Illinois' five field goals made today tied a school record. The last time
an Illinois team kicked five field goals was in 1990.
Illinois won its second-consecutive Homecoming game this afternoon, giving
the Illini a 40-49-2 all-time record on Homecoming.
Today's attendance was a sell-out crowd of 70,904. The last time Illinois
played in front of a sell-out crowd at Memorial Stadium was last year against
Michigan.
