Women's Tennis Falls To No. 7 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. - The Fighting Illini women netters fell to No. 7 Duke 6-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Illinois, now 4-7 on the year and 2-0 in Big Ten action, collected two singles wins and earned one doubles victory. At No. 2 singles, freshman Eldina Fazlic downed Kathy Sell 6-2, 7-6 and junior Carla Rosenberg won 6-3, 6-3 over Hillary Adams at No. 3. Senior Megan Wise lost a tough three-setter to Ioana Plesu, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6, at No. 5. Fellow senior Natalia Manasova also went three sets before falling to Katie Granson 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 at No. 4. Pairing with Manasova at No. 3 doubles, Rosenberg defeated Katie Granson and Sell 8-4.

"We can build from this match," Assistant Coach JoAnne Russell said. "It was a close match and everyone played tough. It was a great effort."

No. 44 Illinois returns to action March 14 at SMU.
