MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Graydon Oliver's three-set win put Illinois over the
top in its 4-2 win against UNLV in the round of 16 at the Blue Gray Classic.
Illinois, now 7-3 on the year, swept the doubles and got two singles wins to
advance. Oliver clinched the match with a 4-6, 7-6, 10-8 victory over Danny
Evez. Senior Cary Franklin moved to 9-1 this spring with a 6-4, 6-4 win
over Vladimir Pavicevic at No. 1. The Illini finally got the match
completed after seeing it delayed and then postponed on the first day of the
event.
Franklin and Oliver downed Newad Zivkovic and Greg Skorin 8-6 at No. 1
doubles and senior Jeff Laski and sophomore Jamal Parker won 8-4 over
Pavicevic and Evez at No. 2.
"It was a very close match, but managed to get the win," Head coach Craig
Tiley said. "After a lot of delays and many interruptions, we took care of
what we had to do."
The Illini face Notre Dame in the next round. Illinois headed into the
Classic with a 5-2 win over the Irish.
