HOUSTON, Texas -- The University of Illinois women's swimming & diving team competed at the Rice Individual meet on Saturday. The six-team meet (Illinois, Michigan, Penn State, California, Rice, Missouri) focused on individual performances, so there were no team scores.
Several swimmers placed well in the 14-event competition for the Illini. Junior Jessica Aveyard recorded a first place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.62. Aveyard also placed second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:55.60. Freshman Crystal McAdam won the 200 individual medley in a career-best time of 2:07.89.
"I think everyone was a little bit slower tonight," head coach Sue Novitsky said. "The girls used up a lot of emotion last night with the other meet."
The Illini will be in action next weekend, as they travel to Bloomington, Ind. for the Indiana Invitational.
