EAST LANSING, Mich. - For the third straight year Michigan State and Illinois played
overtime. Unfortunately, the Illini couldn't find a way to score, losing
to Michigan State, 1-0 in OT.
Kim Van Cleef scored 53 seconds into the overtime for the
Spartans.
The Illini out-shot Michigan State 14-9, led by five shots from
Emily Brown.
"We played them even," said head coach Tricia Taliaferro. "We
had our opportunities. We just have to figure a way to the get the ball
in the back of the net."
Amy Bessette had some key saves for the Illini, totaling for the
match.
Illinois is 2-0 at home in the Big Ten and 0-2 on the road. The
Illini play at Northwestern Sunday at 1 p.m. Illinois, now 8-3 overall
and 2-2 in the Big Ten. All three of the Illini's losses have come in
overtime. The Illini did defeat Minnesota in 2-1 in OT on Sept. 17.
"Today was a tough lesson," Taliaferro added.
