Mary Long

Education: 
Long received her bachelor's degree in integrated science from the University of Denver. She recently completed her master's degree at Columbia University in May 2023, where she studied International Affairs with a specialization in Gender and Public Policy.

Responsibilities: 
As a DEIB fellow, Long works within the Diversity & Inclusion and Student Athlete Development departments to ensure and promote an equitable and inclusive environment for all student-athletes.

Past Experience:
Prior to joining the Illini Family, Long was a marketing assistant at Columbia University. Additionally, she has served as an Advocate Intern for Voice in Sport. She founded and co-led Columbia's Voice in Sport chapter working alongside the female student athletes to expand Title IX education, promote women's sports on campus, and bring forward the conversation of mental health among student athletes. Additionally, Long served as an Advocacy, Operations and Social Media Intern for the Women's National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) and worked to raise more awareness regarding several social justice causes such as National Gun Violence Awareness, Mental Health, and Black History Month. Mary has also served as a fellow for Athletes' Voices.
