Emergency Action Plan: State Farm Center

Address: 1800 South First Street, Champaign

Venue Directions: The State Farm Center is located on South First Street between St. Mary's Road and Kirby Avenue. 

Court Level Entrance: Court level access to the building is from the EAST side of the building through service tunnel off of South Fourth Street.  

Emergency Personnel: 

Certified athletic trainer and athletic training aide(s) on site for practice and competition; additional sports medicine staff accessible from Memorial Stadium athletic training room (217-333-6718).

Emergency Communication: 

Fixed telephone line located in State Farm Center athletic training room (217-300-5072).

Emergency Equipment: 

Supplies (AED, oxygen, splint kit, chair stretcher, pulse oximeter, and glucometer) located in State Farm Center athletic training room or behind the home team bench for practice and competition.

Roles of First Responders

1. Immediate care of the injured or ill student-athlete.
2. Activation of emergency medical system (EMS): 

CALL 9-1-1

• Provide name, address, telephone number
• Number of individuals injured
• Condition of injured
• First aid treatment
• Specific directions for access to venue
• Other information as requested
• Be the last to hang-up 

3. Emergency equipment retrieval 
4. Direct EMS to scene 

a. Designate an individual to "flag down" EMS and direct to scene: 

• One person will be at the service tunnel guard shack.
• One person will be at the building access door in the tunnel. 

5. Scene control: limit scene to first aid providers and move bystanders away from area. 
6. All transported student-athletes will be directed to Carle Foundation Hospital Emergency Department located at 611 West Park Street, Urbana, IL; 217-383-3313. 
7. A staff member (athletic trainer or assistant coach) will accompany student-athlete to the hospital in the ambulance.
