Emergency Action Plan: Illinois Field (Baseball)

Address: 601 East Kirby Avenue, Champaign, IL 61820

Venue Directions: 

Illinois Field is located near the corner of South 4^th Street and West Kirby (Florida) Avenue, on South Wright Street between St. Mary’s Road and West Kirby (Florida) Avenue.  The athletic training room is located in the Illinois Field Clubhouse accessible from Kirby (Florida) Avenue, just east of South 4^th Street.

Venue:

• Entrance to Baseball Clubhouse Athletic Training Room is through the gate located on the south side of the clubhouse accessed from Kirby (Florida) Avenue. 
• Clubhouse entrance from Kirby (Florida) Avenue

Game Day Field Access: 

Game day field access and ambulance parking is on the first base side of Illinois Field, accessible from St. Mary’s Road, through the east side of the soccer/track complex. 

Emergency Personnel:

Certified athletic trainer and athletic training aide(s) are on site for practice and competition; EMT is on-site for competitions; physicians are on call; additional sports medicine staff accessible from Memorial Stadium athletic training room (217-333-6718)

Emergency Equipment: 

• Supplies (AED, splint kit, crutches) located in Illinois Field Clubhouse athletic training room or in 3^rd base dugout for practice and competition.  
• Ambulance is present for all home games.

Roles of First Responders:

1. Immediate care of the injured or ill student-athlete.
2. Activation of emergency medical system (EMS): CALL 9-1-1

• Provide name, address, telephone number
• Number of individuals injured
• Condition of injured
• First aid treatment
• Specific directions for access to venue
• Other information as requested 
• Be the last to hang-up

3. Emergency equipment retrieval 
4. Direct EMS to scene 
   1. Open appropriate gates (AA1)
   2. Designate an individual to "flag down" EMS and direct to scene: 
      1. Clubhouse and Athletic Training Room Access (Practice Days)
         • One person will be at the entrance off of Kirby (Florida) Avenue
           •     --OR--
      2. First Base Field Access Gate (Game Days)
         • One person will be at the first base field access gate
5. Scene control: limit scene to first aid providers and move bystanders away from area. 
6. All transported student-athletes will be directed to Carle Foundation Hospital Emergency Department located at 611 West Park Street, Urbana, IL; 217-383-3313.
7. A staff member (athletic trainer or assistant coach) will accompany student-athlete to the hospital in the ambulance.
