Emergency Action Plan: Atkins Tennis Center

Address: 1751 S. Goodwin Ave, Urbana, IL 61820

Venue Directions:  The Atkins Tennis Center is located on Goodwin Ave between Florida Ave and St. Mary's Road.

Atkins Indoor Court Access: Access to the indoor courts and athletic training room is through the east entrance from the parking lot located off of Goodwin Avenue.

Atkins West Outdoor Court Access:  Emergency access to the west side outdoor courts is from the driveway to the sourth of the partking lot located off South Goodwin Avenue.

Khan East Outdoor Court Access:  Access to the east outdoors courts is from the parking lot located off South Goodwin.

Emergency Personnel: 

Certified athletic trainer and athletic training aide(s) are on site for competition; additional sports medicine staff accessible from Memorial Stadium athletic training room (217-333-6718)

Emergency Communication: 

Fixed telephone lines accessible from Atkins Tennis front desk located in the east lobby of the building (217-244-8562) and athletic training room (217-333-2829).

Emergency Equipment: 

Supplies (AED, splint kit, oxygen) located in Atkins Tennis Center athletic training room or with the certified athletic trainer during an athletic event.

Roles of First Responders

1. Immediate care of the injured or ill student-athlete.
2. Activation of emergency medical system (EMS):  CALL 9-1-1
   • Provide name, address, telephone number
   • Number of individuals injured
   • Condition of injured
   • First aid treatment
   • Specific directions for access to venue
   • Other information as requested 
   • Be the last to hang-up
3. Emergency equipment retrieval 
4. Direct EMS to scene 

• Designate an individual to "flag down" EMS and direct to scene
• One person will be at the parking lot entrance on South Goodwin Avenue

5. Scene control: limit scene to first aid providers and move bystanders away from area.
6. All transported student-athletes will be directed to Carle Foundation Hospital Emergency Department located at 611 West Park Street, Urbana, IL; 217-383-3313.
7. A staff member (athletic trainer or assistant coach) will accompany student-athlete to the hospital in the ambulance.
