Wagler Earns Sixth Big Ten Freshman of the Week Award

News

CHAMPAIGN, Ill.– Illinois guard Keaton Wagler (Shawnee, Kansas) is Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the sixth time this season, the conference office announced Monday.

Wagler Highlights (Feb. 9-15)
• Averaged 26 points, five assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in a pair of games last week on 50% shooting from the field, including 43% from 3-point range.
• Game-high 34 points and seven assists vs. Wisconsin, with the 34 points ranking as the third-best scoring performance ever by an Illini freshman, and second among all Big Ten freshmen this season behind his record 46 at Purdue.
• 18 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals in win over Indiana.

Wagler's six Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors are the second-most in program history behind Kofi Cockburn, who earned seven newcomer awards in 2019-20.

Wagler and the No. 10 Fighting Illini are headed to Los Angeles for a two-game road trip this week. Illinois faces USC on Wednesday at 9 p.m. CT on BTN before taking on UCLA on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT on FOX.
