Manuella Alves Named to Brazil’s 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup Roster

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini women's basketball incoming freshman Manuella Alves has been named to Brazil's senior roster for the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup. Action will take place from June 28-July 6 in Santiago, Chile.

Alves is a 6-3 forward that hails from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The rookie attended IMG Academy for her senior season of high school competition, helping the Ascenders win the Chipotle Nationals Championship. She was a four-star recruit ranked No. 61 in ESPNW's HoopGurlz listing.

Alves also represented Brazil at the 2024 FIBA U18 Women's AmeriCup, 2023 South American U17 Women's Championship, 2023 FIBA U19 Women's World Cup, 2022 FIBA U18 Women's AmeriCup, 2022 South American U18 Women's Championship, and 2021 FIBA U16 Women's AmeriCup.

In total, 12 players were called up for the Brazil women's national team's summer action. Training camp began on June 15 in São Paulo, Brazil. Brazil played a friend pre-tournament game against Canada on June 22 and is headed for Chile on June 25. Alves is one of four NCAA student-athletes on the roster.

In the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup, Brazil is in Group A alongside Argentina, Canada, the Dominican Republic, and El Salvador. Brazil won the 2023 event.

Following the action in Santiago, Chile, Alves will join Brazil's U19 team in the Czech Republic from July 12-20 from the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup.
