CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois junior Kenta Miyoshi has been named the Big Ten Men's Tennis Player of the Week following his performances against UCLA and USC, the conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Going undefeated in singles and doubles play during the No. 23 Fighting Illini's duals against the Bruins and the Trojans, Miyoshi earned the conference-wide recognition for the third time this season. He is the first player since Alex Brown during the 2017-18 campaign to be named the conference's Player of the Week three times in one season.
Against USC, Miyoshi recorded his highest-ranked win of the spring with a 7-5, 6-3 decision over No. 30 Peter Makk, a result that clinched the Orange and Blue's 4-2 victory over the No. 26-ranked Trojans. That singles triumph marked Miyoshi's 10th win in dual play this spring, all of which have come at No. 1 singles.
The Illini junior also went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles while playing with Tyler Bowers. The pair started the weekend with a 6-2 victory over UCLA's Alexander Hoogmartens and Giacomo Revelli before defeating USC's Tristan Bradley and Peter Makk, 6-4. Miyoshi and Bowers have now won four straight doubles matches and sit at 4-1 as a tandem this spring.
Currently ranked No. 16 in the ITA singles rankings, Miyoshi is 23-9 in singles play during the 2024-25 season while holding a 3-1 mark during Big Ten action.
Miyoshi was also named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Sept. 18 and Feb. 19.
