HUMBLE, Texas – Fighting Illini women's golf used a strong third round to finish sixth at The Chevron Collegiate, carding a 54-hole team total of 847 (-17) at the Golf Club of Houston.
Illinois fired a final round 13-under (275) to move four spots up the leaderboard on the final day. It was also the second-lowest team round in program history, just two strokes shy of matching the program record of 15-under, set at this tournament (formerly ICON Invitational) on Feb. 22, 2022. The Orange and Blue's 54-hole score of 17-under is the fourth-lowest mark in program history.
Victoria Zheng is the high finisher for the Illini, placing tied for 12th after recording a third round 70 (-2) to finish at 6-under. Zheng tallied five birdies on the day to give her a tournament total of 12. Her scoring average of 4.50 (-6) on par 5s is tied for the third-lowest mark among the field.
Brielle Mapanao finished tied for 20th after her third round 69 (-3). Mapanao birdied five times during her final 18 of the event to post her third round under 70 this season, her second-straight such round. The junior's 3.83 (-5) scoring average on par 4s was tied for the fourth-lowest among the field.
Yurang Li fired a 71 (-1) today to place tied for 25th. Li's 42 pars during the tournament were third-most and her 2.75 (-3) scoring average on par 3s was tied for the fifth-lowest mark.
Lexanne Halama tallied a 69 (-3), her third sub-70 round of the season, to finish tied for 31st. Halama birdied five times on the day to move 18 spots up the leaderboard.
Anna Ritter recorded a career-low 5-under (67) to finish tied for 25th, moving 31 spots up the leaderboard with her performance. Ritter birdied seven times to give her a tournament total of 15, tied for fourth-most among the field, just one shy of matching the tournament lead.
TCU claimed team honors at 34-under (830) and the Texas A&M's Vanessa Borovilos took individual honors at 15-under (201).
The Fighting Illini will be back in action on March 17 at the Spring Break Shootout in Dade City, Fla., at Lake Jovita Golf Club.
