COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Illinois swim and dive team completed the third day of the Big Ten Championships on Friday (Feb. 21). The Illini broke four school records including the 400 medley relay, Kayla Duran in the 100 breaststroke, Sydney Stoll in the 200 freestyle and Sara Jass in the 400 IM.
Duran broke the 100 breaststroke school record in the preliminary round where she qualified to the B finals (1:00.39). She placed 12th in the finals (1:00.47) to be the highest individual placer of the championships so far for Illinois as a true freshman.
Stoll broke her own 200 freestyle school record on a time of 1:46.47 in the morning preliminaries and qualified to the B finals. In the night's finals session, she placed 16th (1:47.30).
Jass placed 20th in the C finals of the 400 IM with the new school record time (4:12.40). She qualified to the finals earlier with the program's second-fastest time (4:13.98) before going faster in the night's finals.
The 400 medley relay team of Suvana Baskar, Duran, Chloe Diner and Stoll finished the day off shattering the previous school record by nearly two seconds (3:37.63) in their ninth-place finish.
The divers competed on the three-meter boards today led by Elle Crisostomo who finished 45th with 217.05 points, Dani O'Kelly placed 47th (208.50), Matilda Garcia placed 50th (196.70) and Bethany Mercer finished in 53rd (183.60).
Illinois currently sits in 13th place with 176 points after day three action.
