IOWA CITY, Iowa — During the final session of the Hawkeye Invitational, senior Sara Jass broke the school record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:12.90, good for fourth place in the A final. 2:12.95 was the previous Illinois record, held for nearly 16 years by Marissa Clapp (2006-09). The Illini finished fourth overall of the nine participating teams, earning 934 points.
In the 200 backstroke, Michelle Kaner added her fourth top-ten program mark of the weekend, reaching fourth all-time with a tally of 1:59.05 in the B final.
A handful of Illini recorded personal bests in the 100 freestyle, but it was Eva Allan who catapulted herself into eighth on the all-time list, swimming 50.26 in the B final. Allan also captured a top-ten mark during the 400 freestyle relay, alongside Jass, Maggie Adler and Martina Cibulkova (3:21.27).
In the 1650 freestyle, Liv Dorshorst led the way for the Illini in the final heat, finishing seventh overall (16:44.87).
For the divers, Bethany Mercer qualified in fourth for the A final in the platform dive, posting a score of 226.90, while Carlie Rose qualified for the B final with a score of 201.35. Rose posted a 221.85 to emerge victorious in the B final, while Mercer finished fifth overall, with the ninth-best platform dive score in program history (235.45).
