CHAMPAIGN, Ill.– Illinois forward David Mirkovic (Niksic, Montenegro) is a repeat selection as Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. He has now earned the award in each of the first two weeks to open the 2025-26 season.
David Mirkovic Highlights (Week of Nov. 10-16)
• Averaged a double-double of 19 points and 12.5 rebounds in a pair of Illini wins last week.
• Notched the first 20 point-20 rebound game by an Illini player in 53 years, tallying career highs of 27 points and 21 rebounds in the win over Colgate, along with three assists.
• His 21 boards set the Illini freshman single-game rebounding record, breaking the previous mark of 17.
• Also scored in double figures in the win over #11 Texas Tech, finishing with 11 points, four rebounds, two steals, and an assist.
Mirkovic and the No. 8 Fighting Illini are back in action Wednesday night in Chicago, facing No. 11 Alabama at the United Center at 8 p.m. CT.
