CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois swim and dive team finished the first half of the House of Paign Invite on Friday (Oct. 24) in the ARC Pool. The Illini lead Southern Illinois 98-68 and Illinois State 126-38 after day one of competition.
The Fighting Illini started the night off with a gold medal from the 200 medley relay team of Sophia Paduano, Kayla Duran, Chloe Diner and Isabella Wilhelm on a time of 1:40.92. Wilhelm later in the evening sped to a gold medal in the 50 freestyle (23.52) and Paduano captured silver in the 100 backstroke (55.07). Diner earned silver in two events, first in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.40) and later right at the end of the meet in the 100 IM (56.26).
Liv Dorshorst won the 1000 freestyle (10:04.82) and Taylor Judas placed second with the fastest time of her young collegiate career (10:13.93). Bella Wojtowicz swam the program's seventh-fastest 100 IM in her third-place finish (58.36).
Sara Jass placed second in the 200 freestyle and Sophia Yousuf did so in the 100 butterfly (56.39). The 400 freestyle relay team of Jass, Yousuf, Eva Allan and Wilhelm closed out the night with one more event win (3:23.29).
Tonight, the divers competed in the three-meter dive with Matilda Garcia as the event champion with a score of 300.75. Elleka Boeres finished in second (298.65), Carlie Rose in third (285.38) and Bethany Mercer placed fourth (280.95).
