No. 23 Illinois defeated No. 21 USC, 34-32, on a Homecoming Saturday in front of a sold-out crowd at Gies Memorial Stadium after a 41-yard field goal as time expired by junior David Olano. USC had taken a 32-31 lead with 1:55 to go before the Illinois offense ran the two-minute drill to put Olano in position for the winning kick. Olano was also named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after making all six kicks in the win: two field goals (45, 41) and four extra points. This season, he is 6-for-7 on field goals, with his only miss coming because of a block on protection issues; 24-for-24 on extra points; and 29-for-31 on kickoff touchbacks.
Olano is a senior majoring in recreation, sport, & tourism with a concentration in sport management.
