Trailing by as many as four points through the opening four minutes, the Illini used a 4-0 run to even the contest at 8-8 at the first-quarter media timeout. The Lady Bears briefly retook the lead before a Bryant 3-pointer and a Cook layup gave the Orange and Blue their first advantage of the contest. The Lady Bears used a 9-0 run to extend their lead to double digits before Cook moved into double figures with two 3-pointers in less than one minute. A 7-2 Illini run, which featured points from four of Illinois' starters, cut into their deficit, but the home side went into the break facing a 37-32 deficit.
Cook totaled a team-high 15 points before the halftime intermission. The opening 20 minutes featured four lead changes, though the Illini held an advantage for less than three minutes across the opening two quarters.

The Lady Bears answered right away with a 6-2 scoring streak to take a 48-42 edge with four minutes left in the third quarter.
Illinois did not stay quiet for long. After Hobby cut the Illini deficit down to four points via two makes from the free-throw line, Bryant connected on her second trey of the day to move the Lady Bears' advantage down to one point.
Back-to-back buckets from McKenzie then put the Orange and Blue ahead for the first time since the opening period before Cook extended the lead from the stripe. Missouri State then used a 6-0 run to move its deficit down to three points before Bostic got her first points of the second half to move Illinois' advantage back up to five, 70-65, with 2:21 to play.

QUOTES
Opening statement:
"Just really proud of how we responded after a slow start to the first half. You can tell we hadn't played in a couple of weeks, and Missouri State is a really good team. They have a lot of pieces, they make open shots, and they rebound at a high level.
"We were down in the rebounding battle at halftime, and we came back and ended up winning it by seven in the game. The biggest key that we talked about coming into this game was we had to win the rebounding battle if we wanted to be in a position to win the basketball game, and we did that.
"I thought we did a really good job in the second half. The head of the snake is Stokes, so neutralizing her and keeping her in front. I thought Dal's length gave her some problems. She just did a really good job. Then, we made the post-entry passes a little bit tougher. They were getting really easy looks in that first half. We just executed at a very high level in the second half and made that really big run during the third quarter.
"I'm really proud of these guys. We talked about, in March, you just have to find a way to go 1-0. It's not always gonna be the prettiest. I thought we were really gritty and showed some toughness in terms of our execution, our defense, and our rebounding in that second half.
"We live to see another day, and we can't wait to play at home again on Sunday."
On the importance of having a home-court advantage in the postseason:
"It's really important, no matter if it's during the season or in conference games. It's so important to have that energy behind us. We didn't have a ton of numbers, but they were loud and they really got into it down the stretch when we really needed them. I thought they really helped carry us and fuel us during that tough stretch.
"Sundays, usually, we do a lot better, so hopefully, we can get a big crowd on Sunday. We need them. It's going to be really important if we want to get another win."
On the impact that The Orange Krush has on the team:
"Oh, they're huge. I absolutely love Orange Krush, and I thought that was a pretty good turnout today. Usually, they're down at the other end, so I don't really get to hear some of the stuff they say. I kind of like having them right behind me. I looked back a couple of times and just laughed at them because I was like, 'That was good.' I wish I could say some of the things they were saying, so it was great.
"I didn't get to see what they were writing on the little board, but those are always some interesting ones, too. Orange Krush is awesome, and hopefully, they'll come back on Sunday. It's free again, so they have no excuses."
On the opportunity to play in the WBIT:
"Our first goal was the NCAA tournament, and we didn't make that. We fell short. We're just grateful, first of all, to even have the opportunity to be able to play just because it's fun. It's what we do. We know that these games are still super hard games against a lot of good competition, so we know we need to bring our A game. Overall, we're just really happy to be playing still and be with each other."
On staying the course and returning to double figures in scoring and rebounding:
"I just want to give all the glory to Jesus Christ because He helps me mentally and spiritually. I stayed focused. I'm surrounded by a great team of really good people. The fact that they don't lose confidence in me helps boost my confidence.
"I have a great coach and great teammates. I'm just really grateful that I was able to play for them."
