Shannon Named B1G Player of the Week

CHAMPAIGN, Ill.– Illinois' Terrence Shannon Jr. (Chicago, Ill.) has been named Big Ten Player of the Week for Feb. 12-18, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. He earns the award after averaging 29.0 points on 54.8% shooting from the field, 40% from 3-point range, and 85.7% from the free throw line while leading the Illini to a home victory over Michigan and road win at Maryland.

For the week, Shannon also averaged 2.5 blocks, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists and was tabbed kenpom game MVP in both contests.

In the Illini's 29-point victory over Michigan on Tuesday, Shannon poured in a game-high 31 points to set his career-high mark in Big Ten play. He also established a personal best with 11 made field goals on only 15 shot attempts, en route to his first 30-point game of conference action, while playing just 28 minutes against the Wolverines. 

Saturday, in the Illini's 85-80 road win at Maryland, Shannon had a team-high 27 points with four blocked shots to lead the Illini to the program's first victory in College Park since the Terrapins joined the Big Ten. Shannon drew 12 fouls against Maryland, leading to a 14-of-16 performance at the foul line and setting career highs in both free throws made and attempted. 

Next up, Shannon and the 12th-ranked Fighting Illini travel to University Park, Pa., to face Penn State on Wednesday (5:30 p.m. CT/BTN) at Rec Hall .
