Illini Up to #19 in AP Poll, Highest Ranking Under Green

News

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini women's basketball is ranked in the Associated Press Top-25 Poll for the third consecutive week, coming in at No. 19 in the Week 4 listing. The Orange and Blue hold a 5-0 record and NCAA-best 10-game winning streak.

Illinois has been ranked in eight combined AP polls under Green. In 2022-23, the Illini appeared in four Top-25 polls, followed by the preseason rankings in 2023-24, and most recently the Week 2-4 polls in 2024-25.

The Illini have now appeared in 71 AP polls all-time across 11 different seasons.

Green joins Naismith Hall of Famer Theresa Grentz as the only coaches in program history to lead their teams to AP Top-25 ranking appearances in three straight seasons. The last time Illinois was ranked in three straight seasons was a five-season span from 1996-97 through 2000-01.

The highest Illinois has been ranked under Green is this week's No. 19 mark, while the previous high of No. 21 came back during the 2022-23 campaign. The highest ranking in program history is No. 5, which came on Dec. 8, 1997.

Through five games, Illinois has led for 194:31 of 200 minutes of play, while trailing just 44 seconds. Illinois has now registered a win over a ranked opponent for the third consecutive season, the longest streak since the 2005-06, 2006-07, and 2007-08 campaigns. The Orange and Blue have earned victories over No. 19 Florida State (11/7/24), No. 16 Indiana (2/19/24), and No. 12 Iowa (1/1/23).

Illinois was receiving votes in both the AP and WBCA preseason polls. The Illini climbed three spots from No. 22 in last week's AP poll.
