IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Illinois swim and dive team completed the second day of the Hawkeye Invite on Friday (Nov. 22). Freshman Chloe Diner extends her streak to three-straight meet days of breaking a school record when she improved her own 100 breaststroke to 1:01.07, which placed her fifth in the A final.
Fellow freshman Kayla Duran briefly held the program record for a few hours with her 1:01.13 preliminary time before Diner surpassed her in the final, Duran placed sixth in the A final tonight.
Illinois remains in fourth place out of nine teams with 630.5 points after day two.
BETWEEN THE LANES
The 200 medley relay team of freshman Sophia Paduano, Duran, senior Logan Kuehne and freshman Isabella Wilhelm started the night's finals session off with a win on the program's second-fastest time (1:38.84). Paduano's 50 backstroke leadoff ranks seventh in the Illinois record book as well (25.90).
Senior Sydney Stoll took the bronze medal in the 100 butterfly A final (54.04) while Kuehne won the B final on the program's seventh-fastest time (54.80).
Diner later swam the program's fourth-fastest 400 IM in her fifth-place finish in the A final (4:16.30), junior Sara Jass won the B final to place ninth overall (4:16.24) both were NCAA B cuts. Junior Adelaide Reaser won the C final to place 17th overall while clocking the program's 10th-fastest time (4:21.24).
The 800 freestyle relay team of Stoll, Jass, freshman Maggie Adler, and Diner closed out the night with a fourth-place finish on the program's ninth-fastest time (7:20.19).
ON THE BOARDS
Today's competition was the three-meter dive where sophomore Dani O'Kelly finished 12th overall in the finals with an NCAA B cut and new personal-best score of 286.20. Bethany Mercer also recorded an NCAA B cut and personal-best score (289.15) in the preliminary round, she placed 15th overall in the finals (271.75). Sophomore Elle Crisostomo placed 18th (258.50) and freshman Carlie Rose placed 23rd (246.80).
