IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Illinois swim and dive team completed the first day of the Hawkeye Invite on Thursday (Nov. 21). Freshman Chloe Diner continues to rewrite the record books in her rookie campaign, this time she broke the school record in the 200 IM (1:58.32) and took home the silver medal in today's A final.
Senior Logan Kuehne improved her own 50 freestyle school record to 22.68 where she won the B final, placing ninth overall. Additionally, the 400 medley relay team of freshmen Sophia Paduano, Kayla Duran, Diner and senior Sydney Stoll closed out the meet with a school record (3:39.20) in their fourth-place finish.
Illinois sits in fourth place out of nine teams with 284.5 points after day one action.
BETWEEN THE LANES
The 200 freestyle relay team of Kuehne, freshman Isabella Wilhelm, seniors Laurel Bludgen and Molly Yetter started off the night's finals with a fifth-place finish on the program's third-fastest time (1:31.35).
Sophomore Liv Dorshorst placed fourth in the 500 freestyle A final on the program's fourth-fastest time (4:49.04). Stoll tallied a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM A final (2:00.50), while junior Sara Jass placed sixth (2:00.94).
Two Illini swam top-10 program marks in the morning time trials window. Junior Alexis Wendel swam the program's third-fastest 200 butterfly (2:00.43) and freshman Sophia Yousuf swam the program's ninth-fastest 100 butterfly (55.31).
ON THE BOARDS
Today's competition was the one-meter dive where sophomore Bethany Mercer advanced to the B final with her 14th-place preliminary score of 256.05. She went on to place 14th in the B finals with a score of 246.70. Sophomore Elle Crisostomo turned in a personal-best score (251.95) in her 19th-place finish and sophomore Dani O'Kelly placed 24th (236.60). Freshman Carlie Rose notched a personal-best score of 230.35 and placed 27th overall.
