Wagler Signs with Illini

News

CHAMPAIGN, Ill.– Illinois head coach Brad Underwood announced Thursday the signing of Keaton Wagler to a Big Ten Athletics Scholarship Agreement.

Wagler is a 6-foot-6, 180-pound guard from Shawnee, Kansas. He is a four-star recruit by 247Sports, ranked as the No. 150 player overall in the class of 2025, and the No. 28 shooting guard.

Wagler attends Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, playing for coach David Birch. He averaged 12.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists as a junior, shooting 52% from the field, 50% from 3-point range, and 80% from the free throw line.

Wagler led SM Northwest to a perfect 25-0 season and the 2024 Kansas Class 6A championship, the first state title in school history. He earned first-team all-state honors in Class 6A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association and second-five distinction in the all-state top 15 covering all classes by the Kansas State High School Activities Association.

He also excelled on the AAU circuit playing with VWBA Elite, coached by Victor Williams.

"Keaton is a young man who can play multiple positions on the perimeter and fits us with positional size, elite shooting ability, strong work ethic, and a winner's mentality," Underwood said. "He comes from a great basketball family, is a high IQ player, and won a Kansas state championship, the first ever for his school. Keaton has an extremely bright future ahead; we're excited that will be as a Fighting Illini."
