CHAMPAIGN, Ill.– The Big Ten Conference and Abbott have partnered to tackle the most significant blood shortage across the United States in a generation.

This season, Abbott and the Big Ten are pitting school against school in the largest blood donation competition of our lifetime. The winning school will receive $1 million to advance student or community health. Individual donors will be offered a free one month subscription to B1G+ and will be entered to win a trip to the 2024 Big Ten Football Championship Game on Dec. 7.

The Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics will host its campus and community blood drive on Wednesday in the West Lobby of State Farm Center, beginning at 1 p.m. Sign up here to donate.

The blood drive will be held leading up to the Orange Krush tip-off event, as U of I students prepare for the upcoming Fighting Illini Basketball season.

Additionally, students, faculty, and local fans can donate at mobile blood drives on campus, and alumni, fans, etc., can donate at any nationwide blood donation center. After donating blood, proof of donation can be uploaded at bigten.org/abbott. Each donation counts as one point, and results will be tracked in real-time on the website.
