CHAMPAIGN, Ill.– Head Coach Brad Underwood announced Wednesday that Quincy Guerrier (pronounced GAIR-ee-ay) has signed a Big Ten Tender of Financial Aid with the University of Illinois and will join the Fighting Illini program.
Guerrier is a 6-foot-8-inch, 220-pound forward from Montreal, Quebec. He played the last two seasons at Oregon after playing his first two years at Syracuse. Guerrier has logged 3,413 minutes over 131 college games, totaling 1,280 points and 756 rebounds, good for career averages of 9.8 ppg and 5.8 rpg.
"The addition of Quincy Guerrier gives us a frontcourt player with tremendous versatility," Underwood said. "He has the size and skill to play anywhere on the front line and is effective at both ends of the court. He's a young man we've known about since high school and had on our campus; I have always been a big fan of his game. He has tremendous experience competing at the highest level, playing for two great coaches in Dana Altman and Jim Boeheim.
"Quincy was a prolific rebounder at Syracuse and grew his game at Oregon, making 50 or more threes each of the last two years," Underwood added. "His ability to play on the perimeter as well as be a high-level rebounder is a great combination to have. We are excited to add another veteran player who knows what it takes to be successful at this level and can provide leadership in the locker room."
Guerrier started 22 of 36 games this past season, averaging 9.0 points and ranking third on the Ducks in rebounding with 4.6 rpg. He also led Oregon with 50 three-pointers while shooting 34.7% behind the arc. Guerrier scored in double figures 15 times with a pair of 20-point games, highlighted by a season-high 26 points vs. Nevada (12/10/22).
He started all 35 games as an Oregon junior, averaging 10.1 points and 5.3 rebounds. He also drained 52 three-pointers on 32.7% shooting. Guerrier had 12 double-digit scoring games, with four 20-point outings, and recorded two double-doubles. His top performance came against Colorado in the Pac-12 Tournament (3/10/22), totaling 25 points and 13 rebounds.
A third-team All-ACC selection during his sophomore season at Syracuse, Guerrier posted career high averages of 13.7 points and 8.4 rebounds. He was second on the team in scoring and first in rebounding, helping lead the Orange to an NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance. He shot 49% from the floor and tallied eight double-doubles on the year. Guerrier registered career highs in scoring with 27 points vs. Buffalo (12/19/20) and rebounding with 16 boards vs. Northeastern (12/16/20).
Guerrier averaged 6.9 points and 5.3 rebounds as a Syracuse freshman, shooting 49.7% from the field. He scored a season-high 16 points vs. N.C. State (2/11/20) and grabbed a season-best 14 boards at Louisville (2/19/20).
Guerrier joins transfers Marcus Domask (Southern Illinois) and Justin Harmon (Utah Valley) in signing with the Fighting Illini for the 2023-24 season.
