Tommy Kuhl closed as the Fighting Illini's top finisher as the men's golf team rallied from 10 shots down in the final round for an incredible, come-from-behind victory against one of collegiate golf's premier fields at the Southern Highlands Collegiate, Feb. 26-28, in Las Vegas, Nev.  

The No. 7 Illini opened Round 3 in fourth place, but used a blazing start and a solid finish down the stretch to overtake No. 16 Texas, 36-hole leader and fourth-ranked North Carolina, and No. 14 Pepperdine, for the team's fourth victory in six tournaments and its second in as many events to open the spring schedule. Overall, the win helped the Illini claim head-to-head victories over seven foes ranked inside the top 16 by Golfstat entering the week. 

Kuhl placed third individually at 207 (-9), carding rounds of 72, 67, and 68 to finish nearly four strokes below the course average of 72.84 for the week. The performance, his fifth top-5 finish through six events in 2022-23, earned his second consecutive Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor.

Kuhl is a fifth-year senior from Morton, Ill., studying Recreation, Sport, & Tourism.
