Rodgers Selected to USA U18 National Team

USA Basketball Release

Houston, Texas – Incoming Fighting Illini freshman Ty Rodgers has been named to the 2022 USA Basketball Men's U18 National Team, which was finalized Friday following a week of training camp and features 12 of the nation's top athletes age 18 and under.

The squad will represent the USA at the 2022 FIBA U18 Americas Championship, June 6-12 in Tijuana, Mexico. The team was selected by the USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team Committee and represents the high school graduating classes of 2022 and 2023.

Joining Rodgers on the 2022 MU18 National Team are Mark Armstrong, Anthony Black, Kanaan Carlyle, Stephon Castle, Eric Dailey Jr., Brandon Garrison, Gregory 'GG' Jackson, Jared McCain, Seth Trimble, Kel'el Ware and Cam Whitmore.

Rodgers signed with Illinois last November and will suit up for the Fighting Illini in the fall. The four-star, top-100 recruit had a strong senior year at Thornton Township High School and following the season participated in the Jordan Brand Classic all-star game. Rodgers was a consensus first-team All-State selection and Player of the Year by the Daily Southtown after averaging 17.3 points, 15.4 rebounds, eight assists, three steals and three blocks while leading Thornton to a regional title and sectional final appearance.

Rodgers is the first player on the Fighting Illini roster to make a USA Basketball team in four years, since Ayo Dosunmu won a gold medal at the 2018 FIBA U18 Americas Championship in St. Catharines, Canada leading into his freshman season.

The USA opens play Monday, June 6 vs. the Dominican Republic.
