ROSEMONT, Ill. -Â After a dominant week in the circle that included two complete-game shutouts, senior right handed pitcher Sydney Sickels was tabbed the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 11, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Sickels began her week by tossing a two-hit shutout against Indiana State, walking just one batter while striking out 10. She followed her midweek performance with another complete-game shutout at Rutgers last Saturday, allowing seven hits and walking just one batter while striking out 10. Overall on the week, Sickels allowed no runs across 15 innings pitched, walking two batters while striking out 21.
This is Sickels' fourth career Pitcher of the Week honor, with the right-hander earning honors twice in the 2021 season and once in the 2020 season. Illinois has now gone back-to-back weeks with Pitcher of the Week honorees after sophomore southpaw Tori McQueen earned the honor last week.
