WALNUT, Calif. – The Illinois women's and men's track and field teams saw historic performances at both the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday (April 14), highlighted by a new school record in the decathlon from junior Aiden Ouimet.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University at the Cougar Athletic Stadium, Ouimet posted a new school record in the decathlon, scoring 7,348 points and finishing fourth. He best the previous mark of 7,153 points set by Corey Hammon during the 2015 season. Ouimet was aided by personal bests in six of the events, including 100m (11.05), long jump (7.18m), shot put (13.38m), 400m (50.31), discus throw (36.34) and javelin throw (55.82m).
Earlier in the meet, redshirt-junior Colin Yandel set a new personal best in the men's 10,000m with a time of 29:47.54, while sophomore Tyler Cushing and junior Jack Roberts both set new personal bests in the men's 5000m, with Cushing running a time of 14:09.59 and Roberts posting a time of 14:17.44.
At the Mt. SAC Relays, hosted by Mt. San Antonio College at Hilmer Lodge Stadium, senior Emma Milburn made her 3000m steeplechase debut, running the sixth-best time in program history at 10:21.07, while freshman Sam Poglitsch also entered the record books in the women's 3000m steeplechase in her debut race with the 10th fastest time in program history at 10:32.57.
