Duong & Heuser Win Doubles Championship at Fighting Illini Women’s Open USTA/ITF 15k

URBANA, Ill. - Kate Duong and Megan Heuser won the first professional title of their careers on Friday, claiming the doubles title from the Fighting Illini Women's Open USTA/ITF 15k. The championship marks the second of the fall for the Illinois women's tennis doubles duo.
All six healthy student-athletes competed in the professional event hosted by Atkins Tennis Center across the singles qualifying and main draws and doubles main draw. The Illini combined for 14 wins across the event that spanned Nov. 6-11 for Illinois athletes.
Duong and Heuser went 4-0 as a doubles tandem at their second professional of the fall. The duo is now 5-1 when working together in pro events and 8-2 in collegiate events for a combined 13-3 fall record.
Individually, Duong advanced to the semifinals of the singles main draw, the longest standing Illini in the bracket. Ashley Yeah advanced to the quarterfinals of the draw, playing through Thursday of the event.
Action opened on Sunday, Nov. 6, with Kida Ferrari, Josie Frazier and Kasia Treiber competing in the singles qualifying draw. Frazier and Treiber earned wins to advance into the main draw.

Illinois women's tennis alum, Louise Kwong, competed in the event as well. Kwong was a four-year letterwinner for the Illini and played the final two seasons of her career under Clark.
