Chip Shots: Hauenstein Checks In After Tournaments in South Carolina

Hello Illini Nation!

We recently returned from our two tournaments in South Carolina where we competed at the Briar's Creek Invitational and Clemson Invitational! Our first tournament was in Johns Island hosted by the College of Charleston. We were fortunate to have an extra practice day before the tournament, and the Links at Stono Ferry was so generous to let us use their facilities. After two years, we're so grateful to be back at the beautiful Golf Club at Briar's Creek along the marshes in South Carolina to compete. We had some pretty strong finishes by 5th year senior Tristyn Nowlin and junior Crystal Wang, both with a top 10 finish in an impressive field. Overall, we had a great time competing after the three-week break in competition and enjoyed cheering on the Illini Basketball team to a Big 10 Championship! The Golf Club at Briar's Creek was in great condition and offered some unique challenges along with the up to 40 mph winds on Day 1.

Our next tournament was the Clemson Invitational in Sunset, South Carolina at the Reserve at Lake Keowee. Due to the cancellation of Spring Break, we were able to use the University wellness day to head down a day early and play 9 holes at the tournament course. It was a truly breathtaking course with its amazing views, sloping terrain and sparkling lake surrounding the layout. What was supposed to be an 18-18-18 format quickly turned into a 27-24-3 format with heavy rain and thunderstorms spotting throughout the weekend. However, this did not stop us from making the best of the situation; we finished fifth and our very own Tristyn Nowlin tied for third individually. We were given a very unique opportunity that I know I personally will never forget where all five Illini played in one group together. We were able to support one another the entire 54 holes giving off lots of energy to one another while we were playing. I had the most fun competitive rounds of golf playing beside my best friends in a competitive setting where I could cheer them on and witness how amazing and unique of players they all are. It was truly such a special experience that I know we will all cherish forever. Up next we have the Indiana Invitational where we will head to Bloomington, Indiana. We are all so grateful to the golf courses, host teams, and volunteers who made these past two tournaments possible, and we are so excited to compete again!

Until next time, Illini Nation!
