Illinois Splits Sunday Doubleheader with Indiana

Recap

URBANA, Ill. – The Illinois Fighting Illini split Sunday's doubleheader with Indiana, winning the first game 2-0, and falling short in the second game, 1-0. The Illini had strong pitching performances in both games, as both Sydney Sickels and Addy Jarvis threw complete games and combined to allow just one run. The Illini are now 20-12 on the season after splitting the weekend series with the Hoosiers.

GAME 1 (Illinois 2, Indiana 0)

The Illini opened up the scoring in the bottom half of the first frame with an RBI single to left center by Bella Loya, her fifth RBI of the weekend. In the fourth inning, Lakyn Wagoner would come through with a big two-out, RBI single to score Kelly Ryono and extend the Illini lead to 2-0.

Indiana loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the sixth inning, threatening to get in the scoring column, but Sydney Sickels was able to get out of the jam with a strikeout to keep the Orange and Blue on top, 2-0.

Lakyn Wagoner and Bella Loya both had multi-hit games for the Illini in game one, while each picked up the two Illini RBI's as well. Sickels was dominant in the circle for the Illini, pitching her 11th complete game of the season, allowing no runs and six hits. Sickels improves to 11-2 on the season following the game one victory.

GAME 2 (Indiana 1, Illinois 0)

In a low-scoring pitcher's duel, the Hoosiers struck first with solo home run to center field, breaking the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning. The solo shot would end up being the difference-maker as the Hoosiers took down the Illini in game 2, 1-0.

Addy Jarvis was impressive in her eighth start of the season, throwing a complete game three-hitter and allowing just one run while striking out four. Kailee Powell led the Illini offensively going 2-for-3 at the plate, while Avrey Steiner, Kelly Ryono, and Delaney Rummell each added base hits.
