ROSEMONT, Ill - Illinois track and field's Jon Davis was named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week and Manning Plater was named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week the conference office announced on Wednesday. Plater earned the last weekly award from the Big Ten for the Illini during the indoor season, winning Field Athlete of the Week on January 20. This is the first career outdoor weekly conference award for both athletes.
Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Jon Davis, Illinois
Sr. – Oakwood, Ill. – Oakwood
• Won the 1,500-meters at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #2 with a personal best time of 3:41.01
• Ranks first in the Big Ten and fifth in Illinois program history
• Claims his first career Big Ten Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award
• Last Illinois Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week: David Kendziera (May 2, 2018)
Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Manning Plater, Illinois
Gr. – Rushville, Ill. – Rushville-Industry
• Won the hammer throw at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #2 with a toss of 69.82 meters
• Broke the Illinois program record and currently ranks seventh in the NCAA
• Earns his first career Big Ten Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week accolade
• Last Illinois Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week: Matt McHugh (April 7, 2010)
Davis, Plater and the rest of the Illini track and field team are in action this weekend at the B1G Invite #3 in Bloomington, Ind. as well as the Husker Big Ten Invite in Prairie View, Tex.
