Cabush Breaks Her Own School Record on Day Three

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Thursday at Big Ten Championships brought more Illini records and personal bests. The Orange and Blue had 12 lifetime bests, four top ten finishes and one school record. At the conclusion of day three, the Illini have 109 points.
"Today was our best day, so far," said head coach Sue Novitsky. The 100 butterfly swimmers set the tone and kept the team rolling through the rest of the events. It was terrific to see Cara and Abby earn second swims in their events. The experience gained from being able to compete at night will take them far the rest of the meet and beyond. You can feel the team's energy and excitement to continue to compete over the next couple of days."
Junior Abigail Cabush broke the 200 freestyle school record for the second time this season. She clocked a time of 1:47.80 in prelims. She previously broke the school record on February 6 at Wisconsin with a time of 1:47.90. Prior to Cabush, the 200 freestyle record was held by Barbie Viney (1:47.96), set on February 8, 2007.
Cabush and freshman Cara Bognar both qualified for the finals Thursday. Cabush was in the finals for the 200 freestyle, finishing in 16th place with a time of 1:49.14. Bognar made it to the finals in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:18.70 in prelims. She finished in 23rd place in the finals after a time of 4:19.40.

Sophomore Athena Salafatinos – 50 freestyle (:23.89)
Junior Emily Bolger – 50 freestyle (:24.32)
Freshman Lily Olson – 100 butterfly (:55.30 – sixth all-time), 50 butterfly (:25.65 – eighth all-time)
Junior Kaylee Heimes – 100 butterfly (:56.83)
Sophomore Lizzie Gile – 100 butterfly (:57.59)
Junior Abigail Cabush – 200 freestyle (1:47.80 – school record)
Freshman Laurel Bludgen – 200 freestyle (1:52.67)
Junior Sidney Kennedy – 200 freestyle (1:54.24)
Freshman Lauren Beard – 200 freestyle (1:58.66)
Freshman Cara Bognar – 400 individual medley (4:18.70 – fourth all-time)
Sophomore Kaleigh Haworth – 400 individual medley (4:26.07)
Freshman Brooke Michael and freshman Taylor Michael both participated in the diving portion of the event. Taylor finished with a score of 248.85 in the three-meter dive, while Brooke scored a 219.80.
Illinois will return to action tomorrow for day four of swimming. Preliminaries will begin at 11 a.m. CT.
