UI Armory
The UI Armory track floor has been revitalized for look and performance this summer with the Beynon Sports BSS 2000 Resurfacing System with Hobart Texture. The revolutionary manufacturing and installation process restored the appearance and texture of the existing track and field surface, and dramatically enhanced the feel under foot.
"The Armory Track has a storied history. Some of the biggest names (coaches and athletes) in the sport over the past century plus have called it home," said Illinois track and field coach Mike Turk. "It's an honor to walk in the facility daily but it was easy to see that the old surface was dated. With the new surface, the first thing you'll notice are the colors. The orange and grey color combination of the new surface looks fantastic.
"While the change in colors is dramatic, the bigger impact will come from how the surface performs. The old surface was fast, but because of wear and usage had become too hard. The force reduction of the surface was no longer acceptable. We wanted to keep the track fast but needed to improve the force reduction. This new surface accomplishes that goal. Our student athletes will love the way it feels and ultimately we should see a decline in injuries and improved performance.
It's fast, durable, feels great and the old Armory Track is happy."
