Big Ten Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Illinois women's tennis juniors Asuka Kawai and Mia Rabinowitz were named to the 2020 All-Big Ten Team, as announced by the conference office Wednesday, May 20.
Kawai garners the honor for the second consecutive season, being honored last season as a unanimous selection. Rabinowitz tabs the All-Big Ten Team honor for the first time in her career.
Predominately playing at No. 1 singles for the Illini, Kawai put together an overall record of 2-1.
Seeing the most time on the second court, Rabinowitz finished with an overall record of 5-7, including two wins over nationally ranked singles opponents. play. The Tenafly, N.J., native secured the victory for the Fighting Illini over Big Ten opponent, Purdue, to give her a 1-0 mark in conference play. Earlier this season, Rabinowitz tabbed a Big Ten Tennis Athlete of the Week honor.
Illinois was just one of three conference programs to have multiple athletes named to the All-Big Ten Team. Michigan, Ohio State and Illinois all saw a pair of student-athletes earn the accolade.
