CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Fighting Illini senior Aleks Kovacevic has been named the ITA Midwest Regional Senior Player of the Year, as announced Monday morning.
The New York City native was successful in many different formats, making deep runs in professional tournaments in the fall and helping lead Team USA to the Master'U BNP Paribas collegiate world championship in December. His fall highlights included a semifinal appearance at the Legacy National Bank NWA Tennis Series and a quarterfinal appearance at the Knoxville Challenger.
Kovacevic avenged a loss in the 2019 NCAA singles semifinals by defeating defending national champion Paul Jubb of South Carolina at the MLK Invitational in January. He reached a career-high doubles ranking of No. 25 with Alex Brown in March before the season was cut short.
