Hi Illini Nation!
I am absolutely boggled by the fact I am currently in my senior year here at Illinois and one semester away from graduating. Before I start getting too sappy, I'd like to give you a little update on what I've been up to since the last time we spoke!
As you all know, the pandemic has brought so many challenges for us. Personally, I was lined up to intern with Congressman Rodney Davis at the Capitol but unfortunately due to the pandemic, my internship in DC was cancelled. Thankfully though, everything worked out for the better as I joined Team Davis as their District Intern here in Champaign! I was able to begin in August and by the time you're reading this, I would have just finished up my internship for the semester. It has been such an amazing, unique, and gratifying experience. I was able to be an intern during an election year, I got to meet some of the DC staff as they made their way into the district for the election, and I was even able to sit down with the Congressman and talk about the future of our nation. Most importantly, I was able to help serve the people of IL-13. This community has given me so much support in terms of athletics and academics, so it was my absolute honor to be able to give back and help those who didn't know where to turn or where to even begin with their issues. I was able to learn so much about the issues constituents face and I have been further inspired to work hard in my future career in public service to help resolve these issues.
Speaking of my future career, these past couple of months have been filled with a lot of preparation for law school! I've been spending long nights studying for the LSAT, working on applications, and writing essays to showcase my abilities. I'm incredibly excited for this next chapter in my life and soon enough, I'll be able to put Esq. at the end of my name :)
Aside from law school prep and my internship, I have also taken up the role as President of the Illinois Sports Business Conference! I've been a part of this organization since my sophomore year starting as a member of the Speakers Committee, moving up to the VP of Marketing, and now President. It has been a crazy semester for the organization to say the least. We've grown to about 62 members, revamped our internal operations, and have made some great strides in the planning of our conference. This is the first year we've obtained a title sponsor for our conference (shout out to Morgan Stanley) and we've got some incredible speakers lined up as well. Although this pandemic has caused us to move our event online, it has presented a great opportunity for us to get creative and reach out to speakers who wouldn't have been able to travel to campus for the event. February 20-21 can't come soon enough!
Lastly, in terms of golf, the team has done an unbelievable job making the most of the time we have had together. This semester we've put in the hard work on the course and in the weight room and we're all undoubtedly anxious to get back into team competition. Despite being in various places in the world, our weekly team meetings to talk about our core values and catch up has been something I always look forward to.
These past three and a half years has been a wild ride. Coming all the way from Southern California, I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting myself into. Turns out, I have made a home away from home and have built relationships and a family that will last a lifetime. I am so extraordinarily blessed to be in this position and to have had the opportunity to represent the Orange and Blue. Although I may leave campus sooner or later, I will leave with a full heart and a smile on my face knowing that I am a part of a unique legacy and will be a part of the Fighting Illini Family for Life.
Now, let's keep the hard work rolling! This pandemic has given us all so much time to realize how little time we actually have and how uncertain life really is. This has only fueled the fire to get after it in the Spring and bring some much-needed hardware back to Chambana.
Thank you all for everything and I'll see you on the course in the new year!
Happy Holidays :)
