CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The University of Illinois swimming and diving team returns to action when it travels to Lincoln, Neb., to take on Big Ten rival Nebraska on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Devaney Center Natatorium. Dual meet action is set to begin at 11 a.m. CT.
Last Time Out
The Illini fell to host Iowa (86-223) and Notre Dame (56-244) in Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 11 in a double dual meet. Freshmen Kaleigh Haworth and Erin Young set season highs in their respected events.
Haworth recorded a season-best time of 2:22.87 in the 200 breaststroke for fifth place, while Young posted a personal-best total of 256.95 in the three-meter dive for eighth.
Senior Kristin Anderson picked up silver in the 50 freestyle (:23.60) and claimed third in the 100 freestyle (:51.84). Freshman Athena Salafatinos grabbed the bronze in the 100 backstroke with a time of :56.33.
Young also had a qualifying NCAA Zone Diving score of 232.15 in the platform dive, though the event was not officially scored. Sophomore Taylor Shegos took seventh (285.85) in the three-meter, and sophomore Madelyn Crosby placed ninth (256.90) in the one-meter dive.
Scouting the Huskers
Nebraska enters the weekend with a 4-1 dual record and will mark the first Big Ten meet of the season for the Huskers. Iowa earned victories over South Dakota State (154.5-88.5), Northern Iowa (143-100), Iowa State (151-149) and Omaha (202-88).
The Huskers hold the advantage over the Fighting Illini, 6-5, in the all-time series record. The two teams last meet on Jan. 26, at the ARC Pool. The Orange and Blue were defeated, 126-174, by Nebraska.
