AVCA RELEASE
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois volleyball team was named of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award recipients for the eighth-straight season, the organization announced. With a record 1,126 teams recognized, 189 in Division I, the Illini is one of five Big Ten schools to be honored with the accolade.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
One of the top academic teams in the Big Ten, the Illini had 10 student-athletes garner Academic All-Big Ten honors at the end of the fall season, with four Illini garnering Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award earlier this month.
