PHILADELPHIA - Fighting Illini men's golf earned its fifth consecutive Big Ten Championship title on Sunday afternoon at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, posting a 2-under par final round score to finish 28-over par for the tournament. Four Illini finished among the top 20 individuals, led by freshman Adrien Dumont de Chassart who shot 4-under for the round to share individual medalist honors with Minnesota's Angua Flanagan. The team title marks the 17th Big Ten Men's Golf Championship in program history, and the 10th title in the last 11 seasons, while Dumont de Chassart becomes the 21st Big Ten Championship Medalist in Illinois history. An Illini has taken home medalist honors in each of the last nine seasons, which is the longest streak in Big Ten Conference history.

"As coaches, we are very proud that this team took a step this week and closed out a last round of a significant tournament," head coach Mike Small said. "We finished second all spring and haven't put a round together when we needed it. I'm very proud of the team today for bringing the mindset of winning a championship to a pressure situation. Adrien's round today won him the Big Ten Championship. A 66 in the last round of a tournament always gives you a chance, and for Adrien to win this as a freshman speaks volumes for his potential and future."

Dumont de Chassart posted a strong final round for the Illini on Sunday, recording five birdies to negate one bogey before making the turn. His 4-under par final round tally is tied for the lowest individual round of the day. He closed play 2-over par in total.

Junior Giovanni Tadiotto finished strongly on Sunday as well, carding five birdies in his final round. He opened play with a birdie on the first hole, and was 2-under par at the turn. He shot even par on the back nine to finish the round, using three birdies to negate late bogeys in the day. Tadiotto was 6-over par for the tournament.

Sophomore Varun Chopra tied for 11th individually, closing play at 10-over par in total. He shot 5-over par on Sunday, adding two birdies to UI's tally.

Junior Michael Feagles tied for 16th overall as he shot 1-over par on Sunday. Feagles started his day strong with a birdie on the first hole, and was at even par through his front nine. He used two birdies on the back nine to negate a late bogey and finish the tournament 11-over par.

Junior Bryan Baumgarten shot 10-over par on Sunday to finish in a tie for 63rd.

Illinois has won 17 Big Ten Men's Golf Championships in school history, with 10 of those coming under head coach Mike Small. Small has the unique distinction of winning 10 Big Ten titles as a coach and one as a player (1988). Illinois is the first school to win 10 Big Ten titles in a span of 11 years since Ohio State won 11 titles in 12 years from 1976-1987. Illinois is one of just three Big Ten teams to have earned the trophy in five-straight years as Ohio State earned five titles from 1976-80 and 1982-87, and Michigan took home the trophy from 1932-36.

THE TOURNAMENT

A three-day, 54-hole tournament, the Big Ten Championships took place on the 7,119-yard, Par 70, Wissahickon Course in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
