Hello Illini Nation!
We just got back from our spring break trip where we had the opportunity to play the Briar's Creek Invitational at Johns Island, S.C. After wrapping up the tournament, we experienced two incredible golf courses and fine-tuned our game for the rest of the season!
We started off Saturday with a productive practice round where we gathered useful information to prepare us for the next few days. We started off the first round strong, with an under-par round of -3. We did not capitalize on all of the birdie opportunities given to us in round two, but we learned more about the course and our games. Round three proved much more difficult due to the windy conditions, greatly testing our mental strength and resilience. We learned a lot about our games during this tournament, and we will apply the knowledge we have gained for future tournaments.
After the conclusion of this tournament, we all looked forward to play on some beautiful courses, along with getting some good quality practice in. On Wednesday, we had the opportunity to play The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island. This golf course was visually challenging, which was perfect preparation for some of the courses we will be playing soon. The ocean winds also made the course challenging, giving us more practice in these types of conditions.
The next day, we played at RiverTowne Country Club, which hosted the Ginn Tribute LPGA event back in 2007 and 2008. It was a very cool experience to play, and the course presented some very unique holes.
The next day, we practiced in the morning at Turtle Point Golf Course at Kiawah Island, getting the chance to finetune our games before heading back home. That night, we experienced downtown Charleston and shopped at the Charleston City Market. We finished up the night eating at Husk, a very special restaurant with a unique southern feel. Almost all the food there came from local sources, and the specific locations were listed out for us on a board as we walked in.
We had a lot of fun on this trip, experiencing different golf courses and learning even more about our golf games. We will use what we have gathered from this trip moving forward into the rest of the season!
Go Illini!
