Illinois Drops Road Match at No. 18 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas - The Fighting Illini women's tennis team fell to the 18th-ranked Texas Longhorns, 6-1 on Tuesday at the Texas Tennis Center. Illinois moves to 6-8 overall this season and will wrap up its month-long road trip with a matchup against UCF on Sunday, March 24, at 11 a.m. CT.
Illinois got off to a strong start to the match, as the Illini took matches on No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to take the early one-point advantage. The pair of Switkes/Belaya swept past Granic/Markovic, 6-0, before Novak/Duong secured a 6-3 victory over UT's Poluta/Labrana to give Illinois the lead. Tuesday marked the third-straight match the Illini have taken the doubles point and the ninth time overall this season.
The Orange and Blue couldn't carry the momentum into singles play, as UT picked up wins on all six courts to earn the 6-1 victory. No. 52 Petra Granic was first to finish with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Mia Rabinowitz on court three and Katie Poluta followed with an identical 6-0, 6-4 victory over Daniela Pedraza Novak on court six.
After No. 75 Bianca Turati secured a 6-3, 6-2 win on court one over No. 54 Asuka Kawai, the match was clinched on court two, as No. 45 Anna Turati claimed a 6-0, 6-4 win over Jaclyn Switkes.
