CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Former Arizona State center Eva Rubin signed a Big Ten Tender to play at the University of Illinois. The former Illinois all-state selection from Homewood-Flossmoor will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in the spring semester next season.
The 6-foot-5 Rubin had a standout career at Homewood-Flossmoor, averaging 15 points and eight rebounds as a senior and 11 points and nine rebounds as a junior. The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association selected her to the all-state fourth team as a junior and all-state second team as a senior, as she led Homewood-Flossmoor to a combined 48-8 record during her junior and senior seasons.Â
"We are extremely excited to announce the addition of Eva Rubin to our Fighting Illini family," said head coach Nancy Fahey. "Along with the immediate impact her size and post presence will have in the front court, Eva brings a level of experience and maturity that will be invaluable assets to our team. We are thrilled that Eva has decided to return home and 'Join the Fight' here at Illinois."
Rubin attended Arizona State where she played in 22 games from 2017-19. The Sun Devils advanced to the Round of 32 and the Sweet 16 in her two seasons.Â
Rubin will be the tallest player on the Fighting Illini's roster.Â
"I chose Illinois because I am excited about the opportunity to come back home and represent my state school," said Rubin. "I believe in and am honored to be a part of Coach Fahey's vision for this program. I look forward to continuing my academic and athletic careers as an Illini."
