Illini Volleyball Quartet Earns All-Big Ten Conference Honors

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Four members of the Illinois volleyball team collected Big Ten Conference postseason honors, the league announced on Wednesday (December 4). Senior Jacqueline Quade repeated as an All-Big Ten First-Team selection, with classmate Ashlyn Fleming also earning her second-straight All-Big Ten Second-Team accolade and redshirt-freshman Diana Brown named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Redshirt-senior Beth Prince was tabbed as Illinois' Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient.

In her final season in the Orange & Blue, Quade has paced the Big Ten and ranks 32nd in the NCAA with 4.19 kills per set and has totaled 474 kills on a .210 hitting percentage. She has served the third-most aces in the conference with 43 and ranks fifth with 0.45 aces per set, while registering 544.0 points on the season to rank 21st in the nation. The All-Big Ten Preseason and 2019 Big Ten/Pac-12 All-Tournament honoree has also totaled the third-most digs on the team with 255 to go along with 50 blocks and 12 assists. She has tallied 10 double-doubles on the year, as well as posting seven 20-kill matches.

Continuing the success from her first season with the Illini, Fleming leads the team and ranks eighth in the league with a .354 hitting percentage, while also pacing the squad with 117 total blocks and sitting third with 278 kills. The Redbird Classic and Bulldog Brawl All-Tournament Team honoree has also tallied 24 service aces and 51 digs. In conference action, the senior ranks seventh with a .351 attack clip, 12th with 0.30 aces per set and is tied for 13th with 0.97 blocks per set.

A two-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week, Brown has made an immediate impact in her first season as the Illini setter, leading the conference and ranking 15th in the county with 1,242 assists and guiding UI to a .232 team attack clip. Her 10.99 assists per set ranks fourth in the league and 31st in the county, with Brown upping her assists total in league play to rank fourth with 11.34 helpers per set. The Columbus, Ohio native paces the Illini with 13 double-doubles, while also sitting second with 264 digs and third with 56 blocks. She also added 54 kills and 18 aces on the season.

The emotional leader of the Illini, Prince garners her third-straight Big Ten Sportsmanship Award and has seen action in 16 matches after missing the start of the season due to injury. The Avon, Ind., native has totaled 80 kills, nine blocks and nine digs on the season.

Wisconsin's Dana Rettke was named Big Ten Player of the Year by a vote of the conference's coaches, with teammate Sydney Hilley earning Setter of the Year accolades. Kendall White of Penn State was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year and Nebraska's Madi Kubik was named Freshman of the Year. The Nittany Lions' head coach Russ Rose was voted Coach of the Year by the coaches, while Big Ten Champion Wisconsin head coach Kelly Sheffield was tabbed Coach of the Year by the media.
