Myles Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois forward Kennedi Myles was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after averaging 15.5 points and 16.0 rebounds in two games last week. Myles broke Illinois' 43-year freshman record for rebounds in a game Sunday when she had 20 against Evansville.

Myles' 20 rebounds is tied for the most by a Big Ten player this season (Iowa's Amanda Ollinger at Iowa State). She also added 23 points and 12 rebounds against Merrimack on Tuesday, becoming just the fifth freshman in Division I this season to record four double-doubles.

Myles is one of three true freshmen in the country averaging a double-double with 10. 9 points and 10.3 rebounds. She leads the Big Ten in rebounding and ranks third in the nation among freshmen.

Myles is Illinois' first Freshman of the Week since Petra Holešínská won the award Jan. 9, 2017 after scoring 21 points on 5-of-6 shooting from three to lead the Illini past Rutgers. Myles was also named to this week's Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll.

Illinois is back in action Friday at Missouri for a noon CT tip on SEC Network.
