CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 19 Illinois volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (22-25, 23-25, 25-21, 18-25) decision to Michigan on Friday (November 1) night in Huff Hall.
Senior Jacqueline Quade turned in a match-high 18 kills on a .302 hitting percentage to go along with a season-high-tying four service aces to lead the Illini (10-10, 5-6 B1G), with classmate Ashlyn Fleming also posting 12 kills on a .350 attack clip and a team-high two blocks.
Redshirt-freshman Diana Brown passed out 48 assists as the Illini hit at a .236 attack percentage against the Wolverines (14-7, 7-4 B1G).
Defensively, junior Morgan O'Brien totaled a team-high 17 digs, while sophomore Taylor Kuper added her fourth-straight double-digit dig outing with 11 on the night.
It was a back-and-forth start to the match as the opening two sets combined to see 16 ties and six lead changes as the Illini fell into a two-set deficit by a combined five points. The Illini battled back in the third, using a 9-1 run to comeback from a 14-10 deficit to take a 19-15 lead, before taking the set, 25-21. The Wolverines answered back in the fourth by building a 19-12 advantage, before going on for a 25-18 set win and 3-1 victory.
The Illini next hosts Michigan State for Dad's Day and Military Appreciation Night on Saturday (November 2) night at 7 p.m. CT in Huff Hall.
